Cookie Policy

What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow a site to recognize your browser on return visits, remember choices you’ve made, and — depending on the type — help measure traffic or support advertising. Similar technologies, such as local storage and pixel tags, are used for the same purposes and are covered by this policy alongside cookies.
Global Securities News (“GSN,” “we,” “us”) uses cookies to run the site properly, understand how it’s used, and support the advertising that keeps our reporting free to read. This policy explains what we use and why. For information on how any data collected through cookies is otherwise handled, see our Privacy Policy.
The Three Categories of Cookies We Use
We group cookies into three categories:
- Strictly necessary — required for the site to function. These cannot be switched off and do not require consent.
- Analytics — help us understand aggregate traffic patterns and improve the site. Set only with your consent.
- Advertising / personalization — used by our advertising partners to serve and measure ads. Set only with your consent.
| Category | Example purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Remembers that you accepted or rejected cookies, so the banner doesn’t reappear on every page | Up to 12 months |
| Strictly necessary | Remembers your selected display language or country edition | Up to 12 months |
| Analytics | Counts visits and page views in aggregate to help us understand readership trends | Up to 24 months |
| Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors from repeat visitors for traffic reporting | Up to 24 months |
| Advertising / personalization | Used by Google Ad Manager to select, serve, and frequency-cap display ads (leaderboard, sidebar, in-article) | Varies by provider, typically up to 13 months |
| Advertising / personalization | Used by content-recommendation widgets (Outbrain/Taboola-style “you may also like” / “around the web” placements) to personalize recommended links | Varies by provider, typically up to 13 months |
Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent under most cookie laws because the site cannot function properly without them. Analytics and advertising/personalization cookies are not exempt, which is why we ask for your consent before setting them.
Our Consent Banner
When you first visit Global Securities News, a cookie banner appears offering two choices:
- Accept All — sets strictly necessary, analytics, and advertising/personalization cookies.
- Reject Non-Essential — sets only strictly necessary cookies; analytics and advertising/personalization cookies are not placed on your device.
Non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising/personalization) are not set until you actively accept them. If you close the banner without making a choice, or if you select “Reject Non-Essential,” those cookies remain off. You can still read every article on the site regardless of which option you choose.
Where the Ad Networks Fall
The two third-party ad technologies used on GSN both fall under the advertising/personalization category:
- Google Ad Manager, which serves our display advertising (leaderboard, sidebar, and in-article placements).
- Outbrain/Taboola-style content-recommendation widgets, which power the “you may also like” and “around the web” links shown at the end of articles.
If you select “Reject Non-Essential,” these networks’ cookies are not set, though you may still see non-personalized advertising or recommendation widgets that rely on contextual signals rather than cookies, depending on the provider’s own technology.
Changing Your Choice Later
You can change your cookie preferences at any time:
- Clear your cookies in your browser settings. Doing so removes the cookie that remembers your original choice, so the consent banner will appear again the next time you visit, letting you choose again.
- Adjust your browser’s cookie controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies from specific sites, or block third-party cookies generally, through their privacy or settings menu. Consult your browser’s help documentation for exact steps, as these vary by browser and device.
- Use your device or browser’s “Do Not Track” or global privacy controls, where available, though not all of our third-party partners are able to honor these signals.
Because blocking all cookies (including strictly necessary ones) may affect basic site functionality, such as remembering your language preference, we recommend using the “Reject Non-Essential” option in our banner rather than disabling cookies entirely at the browser level, unless you prefer stricter control.
